If you haven’t tried sweet potatoes seasoned with cumin yet, you are missing out! These baked seasoned sweet potato fries are flavorful, so easy, and a perfect healthy side dish for just about any meal.
Sweet potato fries are a great, healthy substitute for when you’re craving regular fries. And they’re just as tasty! They go great with burgers (chicken, salmon, beef, etc.), chicken tenders, sandwiches… the possibilities are endless.
The best part: this recipe is super simple (just a couple ingredients), and is mostly hands-off.
Sweet Potato Fry Seasoning
What’s the best seasoning for sweet potato fries? With sweet potatoes, you really don’t need to go overboard with seasoning, since they have a good amount of flavor on their own.
Personally, I’m all about keeping it simple with olive oil, black pepper, and my secret ingredient for the best baked sweet potato fries: cumin!
It gives the fries a lightly smoky and spiced flavor that pairs well with pretty much any dipping sauce. (This homemade creamy honey mustard sauce is definitely a fave of ours!)

How to Make Baked Sweet Potato Fries
This recipe is a no-recipe recipe; it’s so easy that no measurement is necessary!
Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F, then toss your sliced sweet potatoes with a hefty drizzle of olive oil and few shakes of ground cumin and black pepper. (Make sure you cut your sweet potatoes small enough that they bake through, around 1/2 inch per piece).
Place in a baking tray, spreading them out so they are evenly spaced.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until sufficiently tender and browned.
Enjoy these seasoned sweet potato fries with your favorite dipping sauce! I’m partial to ketchup, but salsa would be fun here to continue the Mexican theme.

How to Make Sweet Potato Fries Crispy (and Not Soggy)
Here are a few tips to make sure your sweet potato fries aren’t soggy or soft:
- Use a paper towel or clean kitchen towel to pat the sweet potato wedges dry after you cut them (before you add season them). This removes excess moisture.
- Avoid using too much oil when tossing in olive oil.
- Spread the sweet potato fries out in an even layer on the pan before baking. If they’re touching, that causes them to steam rather than roast/crisp up. If you have too many wedges, just use an additional sheet pan or bake in batches if needed.
Healthy Dipping Sauces for Sweet Potato Fries
I’m a huge fan of ketchup or salsa as a dip for sweet potato fries, but they’re super versatile and go great with pretty much anything! They would also be delicious with:
- avocado lime crema
- BBQ sauce
- sriracha crema (made with Greek yogurt or sour cream)
- garlic aioli
- honey mustard sauce
