Morning! As you guys have probably already seen on Instagram – I made it! I finished the Marine Corps Marathon yesterday. 🙂 I’m so, so proud to have earned this medal – this was a really tough race. I didn’t get my PR (or anywhere near it!), but it’s all good – I’m still really pumped to be able to say I’ve now run the Marine Corps Marathon!
I’ll be back tomorrow with a full recap – stay tuned!
Matt and I had a nice and low key weekend minus the race – Friday we made a simple dinner at home (sausages, sauerkraut, salad) and then watched like 3 hours of Narcos (SO GOOD) episodes on the couch, which was glorious. We hadn’t had a couch night together in like 3 months!
Saturday we slept in and then did some stuff around the house! First order of business: putting out some Halloween decorations, of course! We brought back our front yard graveyard again – it was a hit last year. 🙂
I also spent some time prepping for the race! I made a bunch of my Nut Butter Stuffed Salty Dates to eat during the marathon…
And I also whipped up a batch of Paleo Banana Bread which I’m obsessed with and ate before a bunch of my long runs this summer! I wanted to eat it in the morning before the race – I figure it’s good to stick with what works! I followed the recipe but used cashew butter (we’re out of almond butter) and almond flour (instead of coconut flour). Yum.
Lunch on Saturday was an easy throw together meal before we headed out the door for a party. I had some unpictured carrots and a tuna, sauerkraut, and arugula wrap! I mixed the tuna with hummus – yummy.
We spent the rest of the day at a co-ed BBQ/baby shower! It was a lot of fun – we had friends in town for the occasion that we hadn’t seen in ages and we ended up staying way past the end time of the event – we were there from 3 until 9! Matt and I were going to come home and have a pre-race chicken and pasta dinner, but we decided to just kick it at the party instead. So my pre-race meal was BBQ (pulled pork), some salmon, various veggies and side dishes, etc. And I had some toast with nut butter when I got home before bed to make sure I had enough carbs. As for drinks, I stuck with water all day!
Between the race, hanging out after the race, and going out to a fun post-marathon celebration dinner last night with my parents yesterday FLEW by. I ended the day with an epsom salt (affiliate link) bath – felt amazing on my tired legs.
I woke up this morning crazy sore, as you can imagine! I decided to take myself to the local high school pool for some really low key laps to help the healing process – swimming always helps my legs a ton when they are sore and stiff!
I swam for about 25 minutes reeeeeally slow and easy and mostly just using my arms. I stopped often and stretched out my legs in the water, too, which felt amazing.
It’s a gorgeous day here today – where was this nice cold weather yesterday?! Wearing my MCM jacket with pride – I’m superstitious and wouldn’t wear it until I finished the race. Anyone else weird about wearing race shirts/apparel until after the fact? I feel like it’s bad luck!
The cold weather inspired me to have some oatmeal today (post-swim) for the first time in ages – this was my Microwave Banana Oatmeal with cottage cheese, strawberries, and sprouted pumpkin seeds on top. Delicious!
Happy Halloween, my friends! If you’re looking for something to make last minute – try my Halloween spiderweb maple brownie cookies! 🙂
Are you dressing up for Halloween today? What are you going to be? We’re planning to pass out candy at our place and maybe hit up a block party nearby – not sure yet on costumes, though!
