Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog back in October of 2009 – wow! My blog started as a very casual lifestyle blog that was chronicling my journey back to school to become a Registered Dietitian.
The blog has stayed true to that casual style while getting more polished over the years with more formal recipes instead of just quick meal ideas, and lots of fitness and nutrition-related content as well.
My photos have improved a LOT since 2009, too. 😉

What’s a typical day in the life for you?
It has changed a lot since having kids! Before our first child was born in 2017, I worked a pretty typical 40 (at least) hours a week on a combination of the blog and my nutrition coaching private practice.
Nowadays, I work part-time (a few days a week) and spend the rest of my time with my kids! I feel lucky I’ve been able to scale my work down to spend more time with them, and it helps a lot that I have two blog contractors who do a lot of work for me behind the scenes, helping drive the business forward even though I have much less time to dedicate to it. I’m sure my schedule will continue to change, but this is working for now!

What are your favorite running/biking/hiking trails in the Washington D.C. area?
- My favorites for running and biking are the C&O Canal (stretches from Georgetown up to MD — check out my “Ode to the C&O Canal” post here) and the Mt. Vernon Trail (along the Potomac River on the VA side from Mt. Vernon up to Roosevelt Island).
- For hiking near DC, I love the Billy Goat Trail (the MD side of Great Falls Park — we hiked it for Matt’s birthday one year).
- If you’re willing to go a bit farther for hiking, Shenandoah National Park is my absolute favorite and only a couple hours drive from DC. Favorite trails to hike in Shenandoah are Old Rag Mountain (very strenuous 5 to 6 hour hike with lots of rock scrambling but super fun and gorgeous views – and we got engaged there!) and White Oak Canyon Trail (about 4 hours hiking — lots of fun waterfalls — check out this post for more).
- Another great hike about 2 hours from D.C. in Luray, VA is a loop that includes Duncan Knob and Strickler Knob (strenuous and about 10 miles/7 hours — see my post about it here!)
